Flash Turn Things Around On Road With Win Over Jam

BAKERSFIELD, CA, Jan. 14, 2010 - The Utah Flash continued their five-game road trip with a stop in Bakersfield to square off against the Jam. Utah allowed only six fourth quarter points to pull away and seal a 21-point victory, 109-88. Dontell Jefferson led all scorers with 24 points.

Utah started off slowly, getting outscored 13-4 to start the game. Amara Sy notched six quick points for the Jam connecting on his first three shots. Utah battled back to tie the score at 15 and finished the quarter up by five points 27-22. All five starters scored for the Flash in the first quarter.

The Flash and the Jam battled back and forth in the second quarter. Although the Jam scored 32 points in the quarter the Flash still took a three point lead into halftime. Dontell Jefferson and Orien Greene each scored 12 points for the Flash in the first half. Bennett Davis had eight first-half rebounds for Utah.

The momentum swung in favor of the Flash when Bakersfield's leading scorer Sy picked up his fourth foul early in the third quarter. Utah went on a quick 7-2 run and pushed the lead to six points with Sy on the bench. The Jam didn't give up and managed to trail by only three points going into the fourth. Jared Newsom led the way for Bakersfield with seven points in the third.

Utah started the fourth quarter with 14-4 run and never looked back. The Flash built a 13 point lead and finished out the game strong. Utah's balanced scoring attack produced seven players in double figures. Jefferson led the way for the Flash with 24 points. Luke Nevill had his second straight 20-plus point game with a 23 point, 10 rebound performance. Carlos Wheeler and Bennett Davis also had double-doubles with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 12 points, 10 rebounds respectively.

Reece Gaines led the way for the Jam with 17 points. He was helped by Amara Sy who tallied 13 points in the loss.

The Flash will head to Los Angeles to face the L.A. D-Fenders tomorrow afternoon. Tipoff is at 3:30 p.m.
