January 15, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Indiana Mad Ants News Release
Fort Wayne, IN (January 15, 2010)-The Fort Wayne Mad Ants are proud to announce their second annual Mad Ants Fitness Challenge and are eager to be partnering with PHP, Governor Daniel's InShape Indiana, America on the Move, and WAJI. This challenge is presented in an effort to fight the rising health issues affecting our nation's children, more specifically, childhood obesity.
Mad Ants president, Jeff Potter, explains the importance of the Fitness Challenge, "By giving children an opportunity to be active, we are also giving them an opportunity to lead a healthier lifestyle, which can benefit them for a lifetime."
This program gives children from schools across Allen, Huntington, and DeKalb counties a chance to participate in 30 minutes of physical activity per day.
"Developing healthy lifestyle habits during childhood, such as exercising regularly, can make a difference for a lifetime. Participating with the Mad Ants to get kids and their parents up and moving is a great opportunity to make a positive impact for the future of our community", says Jay Gilbert of PHP. "We are excited to be a part of the Fitness Challenge and encourage others to join the program."
The Mad Ants Fitness Challenge kicked off on January 14th and will last until February 13th. Children will be able to receive information about the Fitness Challenge through their school or online at waji.com. Each child that completes the Fitness Challenge will receive a free script ticket, redeemable at any Mad Ants home game in addition to the Governor's Fitness Award.
"We are excited to see the Mad Ants engaging the community in such a positive manner. Encouraging Hoosier youth to move more and eat better is a critical component in providing our children with the life skill they will need to be healthy, happy adults," says Joshua Gonzales of InShape Indiana.
Children, as well as their parents can benefit from this challenge. Parents are encouraged to participate in the Fitness Challenge with their children, in hopes of building healthy habits that will continue past the duration of the challenge.
