Flames Host Hamilton And Visit Iowa This Week

Moline, IL- The Flames host Hamilton and visit Iowa this week. The Bulldogs' Friday night visit marks the final time this year that the Flames play an opponent from outside of the North Division. The game in Des Moines marks the third consecutive Saturday night meeting between the two squads.

Last week, the Flames dropped three of four games to close out a stretch of 11 games in 17 nights. The Flames split a pair of contests in Houston before returning home for a showdown with the Iowa Chops. A furious third period comeback by the Chops resulted in a 6-4 Iowa win. On Sunday, Peoria scored three times in the third period en route to a 5-2 win over Quad City.

The Budweiser Flames Forum returns to Bleacher Bums in Davenport on Monday night at 6:00 p.m. Scott Allen, Leland Irving and John Armstrong will be the guests. Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win prizes from the Flames and Budweiser. The show can also be heard on 93.9 FM WYEC.

The first 3,000 fans at Friday's game vs. Hamilton will receive Carsen Germyn Bobbleheads. Germyn was the 2007-08 Flames Fan Favorite Award Winner. He is also the franchise's all-time leader in assists and points.

Tuesday, March 10th - Quad City Flames 1 at Houston Aeros 3

Houston halted Quad City's three-game win streak as the Flames suffered a 3-1 setback in the first of a two-game set at The Toyota Center on Tuesday night. David Van der Gulik scored the lone Flames goal in the loss. Fresh off a recall to Calgary, David Van der Gulik kicked off the scoring with a first period power-play goal. Van der Gulik tipped home a point shot by Brandon Roach for his 15th tally of the season. The marker stood up as the lone tally of the first period, and the Flames hit the first intermission with a 1-0 lead. The Aeros took the lead in the middle frame on even strength goals by Benoit Pouilot and Krys Kolanos. Pouilot scored just 56 seconds into the middle frame to tie the game at one. Kolanos' goal cam at 14:15 of the period when he deflect a Maxim Noreau shot into the Flames net. After 40 minutes, the Aeros held a 2-1 lead. Paul Albers' insurance marker at 18:50 of the third period sealed the Aeros win and was the only goal of the closing period.

Friday, March 13th - Quad City Flames 6 at Houston Aeros 3

The Flames closed their season series with Houston by beating the Aeros 6-3 on Friday night at The Toyota Center. Justin Bowers recorded a hat trick in the win while Brandon Roach, John Armstrong and Brad Farynuk added solo tallies. Leland Irving stopped all 17 shots he faced to earn the win after coming on in relief at the beginning of the second period. With the victory, the Flames have reached the .500 mark with a record of 27-27-6-6. A wild first period featured a combined five goals on 18 shots. The craziness started when Houston's Benoit Pouliot beat Matt Kettley to a dump-in behind the Quad City net. While Keetley was returning to his crease, Pouliot flipped the puck off the back of the Quad City netminder's skates and into the Flames net. The Flames responded with two goals in a span of 3:01. Brandon Roach scored his first goal as a Flame during a Quad City power play when David Van der Gulik found him at the top of the right wing circle. John Armstrong scored just over three minutes later when he streaked down right wing and into the Houston zone. The Flames center cut behind the Aeros cage before scoring on a wraparound to give the Flames a 2-1 edge. The Aeros bounced back with a pair of power-play goals in the second half of the opening frame. Jesse Schultz deflected a shot by Maxim Noreau into the Flames net for the first of the pair of power-play tallies. With a single second left in the opening frame, Morten Madsen added a second power-play goal for the Aeros. Madsen flipped home a shot after capturing a deflected shot by Brandon Rogers. The Aeros closed the period with a 3-2 lead. The Flames moved back in front by scoring the only two goals of the second period. Brad Farynuk scored his first goal as a Flame at 14:17 of the second period. Following a feed from Carsen Germyn, Farynuk whistled home a one-timer to tie the game at three. The Flames moved in front again when a Justin Bowers shot snuck up Nolan Schaefer's shoulder and into the back of the Houston net. It was Bowers' third AHL goal of the season and put the Flames ahead 4-3 after two periods. Justin Bowers insured the Flames win with a pair of third period goal for his first hat trick as a Flame. Bowers scored on a power-play chance after slipping past the Houston defense for a breakaway at 13:31 of the period. He added an empty netter with 36 seconds left to set the final at 6-3 in favor of Quad City.

Saturday, March 14th - Iowa Chops 6 at Quad City Flames 4

A persistent Chops team came from behind to earn a 6-4 win over the Flames. John Vigilante was the Flames top player in the game with two goals and an assist. The Flames captured a 2-0 first period lead on power-play goals by John Vigilante and Carsen Germyn. Vigilante sent a rocket home from the top of the right wing circle for the game's first goal. Germyn followed by scoring on a goal-mouth scramble with just 1:17 left in the frame. The Flames extended their lead to 3-0 just 62 seconds into the second period when John Vigilante scored off an Iowa turnover. Iowa responded 1:06 later when Chad Painchaud recorded his second goal of the season during a 2-on-1 Chops break. The Chops pulled to within a single goal when Drew Miller scored on the power play with 57 seconds left in the middle frame. The Flames managed to hold their one goal lead into the second intermission as they head to the locker room with a 3-2 lead after two periods. The Flames extended their lead to two goals when David Van der Gulik jammed the rebound from a Kyle Greentree shot into the Chops net. Van der Gulik's goal was followed by a furious Iowa comeback that featured four unanswered goals. T.J. Trevelyan started the comeback when he accepted a feed from Drew Miller following a Leland Irving turnover. Trevelyan scored on the chance to pull the Chops to within a single goal. Petteri Wirtanen tied the game when he tipped home a point shot with 6:04 to play. The Chops moved in front when Ajay Baines scored on a goal mouth scramble with just 2:55 left. Iowa added an empty netter by Francis Wathier to secure the win.

Sunday, March 15th - Quad City Flames 2 at Peoria Rivermen 5

Peoria beat Quad City 5-2 on Sunday as the team's met at Carver Arena for the final time during the 2008-09 regular season. The Rivermen scored three times in the third period to earn the win, their eighth in nine meetings this year with the Flames. Kyle Greentree and John Vigilante score for Quad City in the loss. The Rivermen held a 1-0 lead after one period thanks to an even strength tally by Trent Whitfield. It was the 19th goal of the year for the Rivermen's leading goal scorer and was netted off a feed by Chris Porter. The Flames penalty killing was strong in the opening frame as the team found itself shorthanded for 6:45 of playing time including 1:15 at a 5-on-3 disadvantage. Despite the extensive power-play time for the Rivermen, Quad City outshot Peoria 7-6 in the opening period. The Flames tied the game at 4:30 of the second period when Kyle Greentree scored off the rebound from a Kris Chucko shot. It was the 33rd goal of the season for Greentree, good for second in the AHL. The Rivermen re-took the lead with 1:36 left in the frame. Yan Stastny netted his third goal of the year on a feed from Kris Porter. The tally set the Rivermen up with a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. John Vigilante tied the game early in the second when he snapped a shot past Manny Legace. Following Vigilante's marker, the period belonged to the Rivermen as Peoria rattled off three unanswered goals. Chris Porter put Peoria in front with a goal on a shot from the right wing wall. Two minutes later, Jonathan Filewich went to his backhand to score an insurance goal. Curtis Fraser capped the scoring with his second goal of the season at 11:49 of the closing frame. Fraser's tally set the final at 5-2.
