Houston Aeros News Release
THIS WEEK'S GAMES
The Houston Aeros took two of four games this past week to keep the team at second place in the West Division with a record of 33-28-1-8 and only 13 games remaining in the regular season. The Aeros have the next five days off before hosting the Peoria Rivermen in back-to-back games this weekend. Saturday is the final day of Houston Aeros Charities' (HAC) "Jerseys Off Their Backs" fundraiser AND the sixth and final part of the Aeros' Legends Bobblehead Series featuring Mark Freer.
Peoria visits Houston for the second time this season for a pair of games this Saturday (7:35 p.m.) and Sunday (4:05 p.m.) as part of a four-game Texas road trip this week. Peoria plays back-to-back games in San Antonio this Wednesday and Thursday before coming to Toyota Center. The Aeros came back from three-goal deficits to force shootouts in the first two meetings of the season, winning one. The teams split the last two contests and are both 2-1-0-1 in the season series.
The Rivermen trail Houston by three points in the division but play two games prior to the weekend in Houston. Peoria is currently tied for fourth with Rockford at 72 points, both with as many games played (67) as the Aeros. The season series will be wrapped up with two games at Peoria on March 28 and April 3.
WEEK IN REVIEW
Houston won two of four contests this past week holding the club at second in the West Division. The Aeros split a pair of games with Quad City, lost in San Antonio and came back for a win versus Rockford on Sunday.
Benoit Pouliot led off Houston's three unanswered goals to earn a 3-1 win over the Quad City Flames Tuesday night at Toyota Center. The win was Houston's tenth in its last 12 games. Quad City got on the board first for the sixth straight game against the Aeros with a power-play goal in the first period but Houston followed with three straight goals in the following two periods for the win.
The Aeros netted the first goal of the game but allowed four-unanswered goals after the first period as the Quad City Flames took a 6-3 win Saturday night at Toyota Center. Houston took a 3-2 first period lead but couldn't find the back of the net in the final 40 minutes as the Flames won the season series 5-2-0-1.
The Houston Aeros opened the scoring for the second night in a row but fell 3-1 to the San Antonio Rampage Saturday night at AT&T Center. Corey Locke recorded the team's lone goal and Anton Khudobin earned his second start of the season for the Aeros.
Krys Kolanos scored two goals as the Houston Aeros overcame two two-goal deficits to beat the Rockford IceHogs 5-4 Sunday night at Toyota Center. Benoit Pouliot and Corey Locke each added a goal and an assist for Houston (33-25-1-8) who took over sole possession of second place in the tightly packed West Division. Rockford (33-28-0-6) had two-goal leads twice in the game but gave up three unanswered goals to Houston and now find themselves in a tie for fourth place in the division.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Houston Aeros left wing Krys Kolanos recorded three goals and an assist in four games this week and was plus-1 overall. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Calgary, AB finished the week with back-to-back goals within the final 2:19 of the second period, including his 250th professional point, giving Houston their 5-4 lead which would stand throughout the third period.
