Abbotsford Heat News Release

The Flames dropped a controversial 2-1 game in Iowa on Saturday night. Iowa led 2-0 at the midway point of the third before a Carsen Germyn goal pulled the Flames to within one. As time expired, Brandon Roach beat David LeNeveu for what would have been a game-tying goal. Referee Terry Koharski huddled with his linesmen before ruling that the puck entered the net after time had expired. With the loss, the Flames fall to 28-29-6-6.

The Chops scored the only goal of the first period on a power play at 2:01 of the opening frame. Petri Kontiola sent home a one-timer following a cross-ice feed from Matt Beleskey.

The Flames outshot Iowa 20-12 through the first two periods but could not beat David LeNeveu. The Iowa netminder, in pursuit of the first shutout in Chops history, turned aside every shot he saw through the opening 40 minutes.

An exciting third period began with an Iowa power-play goal just 60 seconds into the closing frame. Petteri Wirtanen converted on the man advantage to give the Chops a 2-0 edge. The Flames went on to dominate the closing frame, outshooting Iowa 17-2. The Flames broke through when Carsen Germyn snapped a pass from David Van der Gulik passed LeNeveu. The even strength tallied pulled the Flames to within one goal. Quad City came within a single second of tying the game late. Iowa cleared the puck into neutral ice with just seconds left in regulation. Brandon Roach collected the puck and sent a shot from neutral ice into the net just as time was expiring. After conferring with his linesmen, referee Terry Koharski ruled that the puck entered the net after time had expired. The controversial conclusion resulted in a 2-1 Iowa win.

The Flames visit Bleacher Bums on Monday for another edition of The Budweiser Flames Forum. The show starts at 6:00 p.m. and can be heard on 93.9 FM WYEC. Fans in attendance will have a chance to win prizes from the Flames and Budweiser.

On Wednesday, the Flames return to home ice to face the Chicago Wolves. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available now at the i wireless Center Box Office, via phone at 1-800-745-3000 or on-line at ticketmaster.com.
