Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose dropped their fourth and final game to the Rockford IceHogs in a 3-2 shootout decision on Saturday night at the MetroCentre. Jason Krog and Nolan Baumgartner both notched powerplay goals for Manitoba in regulation time while Curtis Sanford stopped 33 shots for only his third regulation loss this season.

Former Moose defenseman Jimmy Sharrow gave his former club the first powerplay of the game when he was called-out for hooking at 1:51. Manitoba's powerplay unit fired four shots on the man-advantage but couldn't break Antti Niemi before the two-minutes expired.

Dusty Collins returned the favour at 5:46 when he was penalized for holding, but like the visitors the IceHogs couldn't open the scoring before play returned to five-on-five.

Tempers flared in the early minutes of the second period when Dusty Collins and Joe Charlebois exchanged punches in the Rockford zone. After both players fell to the ice they were handed five-minute majors for fighting.

Near the midway point of the game the IceHogs opened the scoring. Winning the faceoff to the left of Sanford's net, Evan Brophey wired the puck into the mesh on Rockford's 19th shot of the night.

With Mike Brennan and Tim Hambly serving time in the sin bin, the Moose had 1:56 with a five-on-three. Planting themselves in the IceHogs territory, Michael Grabner sent the puck across the net to Jason Krog who chipped it in to knot the game at one.

Manitoba earned their sixth powerplay of the game when Jack Skille was called-out for roughing at 6:15 of the final frame. At 7:33 Nolan Baumgartner snapped the puck over Niemi to take the lead, 2-1.

At 18:06 the IceHogs decided to pull their goaltender for an extra attacker. Leading in shots 31-22, Rockford's Tyler Mosienko tied the game at two to force overtime.
