Flacco Whacks Keys to Win
August 10, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release
The Keys got a strong start from LHP Jake Pettit and a four-hit night from LF Mike Flacco to avoid a sweep in a 5-2 win in Myrtle Beach Wednesday night. It is the final time this regular season the two first half winners meet up.
Frederick had allowed six runs or more in four of their last five games but Pettit would not allow that to happen again. The South Atlantic League All-Star dealt six shutout innings keeping the Pelicans off balance with his outstanding change up. Pettit (5-0) has now allowed six runs, four earned in six starts.
The Keys grabbed the lead in the third inning. 3B Dale Mollenhauer lined a single and then Flacco followed suit singling up the middle. With runners at the corners and one down RF Steve Bumbry singled home a run. 2B Jonathan Schoop would follow doing the same with a single to right and with Flacco home the Keys led 2-0.
Up 3-0 into the late innings, LHP Chris Petrini came on and did not allow a hit in two innings of work. Petrini has not allowed an earned run since July 6th.
The Keys opened up the game with four consecutive hits, plating two more runs, in the eighth inning. Along with Flacco, Schoop went 3-for-5 on the night and Mollenhauer also registered two hits.
Frederick returns home to face Winston-Salem for a weekend four-game series beginning Thursday, August 11th. Friday, the 12th will be Fritos Family Friday with Wrestling Great Jerry "The King" Lawler in attendance signing autographs throughout the game for free.
RHP Scott Copeland will get the starting nod for his Harry Grove Stadium debut on Thursday night. Coverage will begin 20 minutes prior on 1450-AM The Source.
