Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

LHP Jacob Pettit (4-0, 1.30) at LHP Chad Bell (2-0, 2.77)

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY OFFENDERS: The Pelicans have had a flair for the dramatic the season, winning nine games in walk-off fashion at BB&T Coastal Field. With last night's win over the Keys, they now have a walk-off victory against all seven Carolina League opponents, with Winston-Salem and Salem being done in twice. Seven different Pelicans have contributed a walk-off hit. Bolden becomes the second Bird, joining Zach Zaneski, to have two walk-off knocks this season. Bolden cracked a game-ending two-run homer in the bottom of the 13th against Salem on July 16th.

LONG WAIT FOR LONG BALL: The Pelicans hit two home runs last night, both by players who had not gone deep in a while. David Paisano hit his first home run of the season in the seventh inning to get the Birds back in the game. He went homerless in his first 300 at bats of the year, splitting time between the Pelicans and Double-A Frisco RoughRiders. He last hit one out on September 5, 2010 on the second to last day of the season for the Bakersfield Blaze in the California League. Travis Adair hit a two-run shot in the second inning last night, his first for the Pelicans since April 22 in Kinston, which was also a two-run second-inning homer. During a month-long stint at Double-A with Frisco, Adair did have a two-homer game on May 20 in San Antonio. The Woodruff, SC native had gone 188 at bats between long balls.

HOME-FIELD ADVANTAGE: The season series between the Pelicans and Keys has been one-sided in favor of the home team. The host club is 15-3 in the season set, with Frederick going 8-2 at Harry Grove Stadium and Myrtle Beach going 7-1 at BB&T Coastal Field. The Pelicans dropped their first home game against the Keys 5-1 on April 29, but they've won seven straight since.

SEASON SERIES RUBBER GAME: The Pelicans and Keys have split the first 18 games of the season set, and after having a rained-out cancellation on the final day of the first half, will play their 19th and final regular season meeting tonight. The two first-half division champions are postseason bound and could meet in the Mills Cup Championship Series with the league title on the line.
