THE HILLCATS: Tuesday, the 'Cats beat the Kinston Indians 9-0...RHP Gary Moran took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, when it was broken up by Jeremie Tice with a two-out single into center field...At the plate, Phil Gosselin led the way going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI...L.V. Ware added a three-run homer as well in the one-sided affair...The Hillcats are currently in third place in the Northern Division at 19-25, 7.0 games back of the Frederick Keys in first place...
VS. KINSTON: The Hillcats are 5-11 against the Indians this season...Despite the Indians dominance in the season series record wise, the 'Cats have outscored the Indians 64-53 this year...Last night's shutout for the Hillcats marked the 11th time in 16 contests that one or both teams had been held to one or fewer runs...Lynchburg took the 2010 season series 14-6...However, the Hillcats have switched affiliations since last season...The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (2010 Braves Advance-A affiliate) lost the season series 8-12 against the Indians a season ago...
SIGNS OF LIFE: Lynchburg has won six of their last seven, and eight of their last 11...They've won their last four series in a row, against the Salem Red Sox, Frederick Keys, Wilmington Blue Rocks, and now the Indians after the clinching the series last night...It's the first time the 'Cats have accomplished such a feat all season...Not since May 23-29 had they even won back-to-back series...With just 26 games left, the Hillcats are now just four games out of a playoff spot behind the Potomac Nationals, since the first place Keys have already secured their spot by winning the first half...
AUGUST HEAT WAVE: Through eight games this August, the Hillcats are 6-2, hitting .314 as a team, while scoring 54 runs, an average of 6.75 per game...Pitching has been lights out as well, posting a 2.28 ERA over 71.0 innings...
THE FAST TRACK: Former 2011 Hillcat Arodys Vizcaino was promoted to the big leagues today, joining Atlanta in Florida...Beginning the season in Lynchburg, Vizcaino posted a 2.45 ERA in nine starts, before getting the call to AA Mississippi May 29...After eight starts, he was moved to the bullpen for three appearances and called up to AAA Gwinnett July 26...He tossed seven innings in six appearances out of the bullpen for Gwinnett, allowing just one run on a solo homer in his debut...At just 20 years old, Vizcaino will be the youngest player on the Atlanta roster...
BEST OF THE BRAVOS: Eight members of the Hillcats are ranked amongst the top 30 prospects in the Atlanta Braves organization according to Baseball America...That list includes C Christian Bethancourt (12), SS Andrelton Simmons (15), RHP David Hale (17), RHP Dimasther Delgado (18), OF Todd Cunningham (20), OF Adam Milligan (22), INF Joe Leonard (23) and 2B Phil Gosselin (25)...
ANOTHER GREAT FIND: RHP Gary Moran took a no-hitter through six and two-thirds innings last night...Through two starts with Lynchburg, he is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, with a scoreless streak of 13.1 innings...He spent all of last season and the beginning of this year in independent ball before signing with the Braves in June...
LIKE HE NEVER LEFT: OF Todd Cunningham returned from a nearly two-month long stint on the disable list last Tuesday...Through his first eight games back, he is 14-for-29 with five doubles, a triple, three RBI, and nine runs scored re-solidifying the top of the Hillcats batting order...
CATNIPS: The Hillcats own a better home record (25-33) than road (24-32) for the first time all season...INF Joey Terdoslavich hit his 46th double of the season last night, setting a new Lynchburg record...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Mike Rayl was selected in the 15th round of the 2009 draft by the Royals out of Palm Beach Community College...Finished seventh in the New York-Penn League in ERA (2.81) in 2010 while pitching 14 games for Mahoning Valley...Finished 2-4 with a 2.81 ERA that season...Started 2011 with Low-A Lake County...Won Midwest League Pitcher of the Week twice, on May 9 and June 27...Named as a Midwest League midseason All-Star...Was 5-5 with a 2.83 ERA when called up to Kinston...Called up July 28...Has made two starts in the Carolina League...Gave up two runs on five hits in six and one-third innings against Myrtle Beach on August 4...Currently 0-1 with a 3.97 ERA...
