Five stars sign with Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan Roughriders General Manager Roy Shivers announced today that the club has signed free agent quarterback Marcus Crandell to a one year plus an option contract. Shivers also announced that quarterback Nealon Greene, linebacker Reggie Hunt, running back Kenton Keith, and offensive lineman Gene Makowsky have all re-signed with the Roughriders.

Marcus Crandell is entering his eighth CFL season, having spent the last four years in Calgary. The 30-year old pivot has thrown for over 12,000 yards and 62 touchdowns during his tenure with the Stampeders and Eskimos. Crandell also led Calgary to a Grey Cup championship in 2001 and was named the Grey Cup MVP.

Nealon Greene re-signed with the club for three-years plus an option. The 29-year old is also entering his eighth CFL season, having spent the last three seasons with the Green and White. Greene led the Riders to back-to-back playoff seasons in his first two seasons with Saskatchewan, but missed almost all of the last season after breaking his leg in the opening game of the season. Greene has passed for over 12,000 yards and 71 touchdowns in his CFL career.

Reggie Hunt has shown his commitment to the Riders with a new two-year plus an option contract. The 27-year old has been a dominant force in the CFL during his three years with Saskatchewan. Hunt has led the Riders in tackles every season he has played and boasts career totals of 246 defensive tackles, 16 quarterback sacks, and four interceptions. The TCU product was also named a Western Division all-star in 2003.

Kenton Keith has re-signed with the Green and White for two-years plus an option. One of the most electrifying players in the CFL, Keith rushed for 1,154 yards and nine touchdowns last season. He has also rushed for more than 300 yards and four touchdowns in four playoff games. I n only two seasons, the 24-year old has been named the CFL's Offensive Player-of-the-Week four times and has been the Rider's nominee as Most Outstanding Player.

Gene Makowsky will remain with the Riders after signing a new two-year plus an option contract. Makowsky is coming off a season in which he was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Lineman. The 31-year old right tackle is entering his 11th season with the Green and white. The University of Saskatchewan product is the longest serving active Roughrider and has not missed a game since the 1998 season.

General Manager Roy Shivers stated, "this is a landmark day for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. I am very pleased to see the commitment these five men have shown the Roughriders and the province of Saskatchewan. It's players of this calibre that will ensure the Roughriders are Grey Cup contenders for this year's to come."
