Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Renegades Football Club announced the signing of two new players Thursday. Veteran CFL linebacker Chris Shelling and running back Eduardo Borrego inked deals with the club.

Shelling, who has been playing pro football for a decade since graduating from Auburn University, spent his entire CFL career with Hamilton before committing to the Renegades. He was voted a CFL All-Canadian and East Division all-star at linebacker in 2001 and East Division all-star at the halfback position the year prior. The former first-team All-American in college broke into the CFL in 1998, after spending 1995 and 1996 with the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals and the 1997 campaign with the Rhein Fire of the World League of American Football. It was on that championship winning team that 5-foot-10, 205-pound Shelling, now 32, played alongside present Renegades starting quarterback Kerry Joseph. At the time, the duo started as the team's two safeties on the title winning squad.

"Chris has experience as a linebacker and as a defensive back, which provides versatility," said Joe Paopao, head coach and general manager of the Renegades. "Not only can he run, but he can really make you feel his hits too."

Borrego is a fresh face, who will come to training camp fresh out of Occidental College. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound native of Suisun City, California was his college team's co-MVP in 2002 and a second-team All-Conference running back.

The 21-year-old is presently the team's youngest player.
