Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys (11-14) gave the Pelicans (16-10) a dose of their own medicine from a day ago, as it was Frederick pushing five runs across in the second inning on a season-high six hits for a 6-4 win on Friday night. It evened the four-game series at 1-1 and handed Branden Kline (2-1) his second win of the season.

Last night, it was the Pelicans scoring seven runs in the seventh inning that was the difference in a 9-5 Keys loss. On Friday, Frederick would strike against Myrtle Beach starter Luis Parra (3-1) in the second and it started with a bang. Creede Simpson, playing for the first time in six days, launched his third homer of the season to left field for a 1-0 lead. Adrian Marin and Lucas Herbst would record bunt singles, and Joel Hutter knocked one of his two RBIs of the game with a single for a 2-0 Keys lead.

One batter later, Glynn Davis drove a double for two RBIs, and the Keys had a 4-0 lead. Jason Esposito roped a triple into the outfield to score Davis and just like that, the orange and black tied their season-high for runs in a single inning with five.

Kline wasn't his sharpest, as he stranded at least one runner in each of his innings, but powered his way through traffic to throw 5.1 innings of one earned run baseball. In the third, Myrtle Beach scored an unearned run off the Frederick native on a play that included two different errors. Odubel Herrera slapped it to the right side, but it was misplayed by Hutter, and Herbst had it slip under his bare hand to make it a three-base play. Frederick led 5-1 after the third.

The Pelicans chopped the deficit down to 5-2 with an earned run against Kline in the sixth. An RBI single by Jorge Alfaro brought home Joey Gallo, but Miguel Chalas got the last two outs to keep Kline in line for the win. The Keys scored another to push the lead back to four runs at 6-2 in the seventh. Against Birds reliever Sam Stafford, an unearned run crossed with Hutter's second RBI. It was Hutter's second multi-RBI game of 2014.

Myrtle Beach would get a single run in both the seventh and eighth innings against Chalas to trail 6-4, but newly acquired Matt Hauser pitched a three up, three down ninth to earn his first save of the year.

Frederick tries to continue its road success tomorrow with Parker Bridwell (0-3, 7.56) on the mound. Chi Chi Gonzalez (1-2, 3.62) goes for Myrtle Peach for the 7:05 p.m. start at TicketReturn.com Field.
