Five-Run Inning Silences Thunder

(Erie, PA)- A five-run 5th Inning powered the Erie SeaWolves to a 5-3 win over the Trenton Thunder on Sunday afternoon. The loss is the fifth in the last seven games for the Thunder, including four of six games on their current 11-game road trip.

Trenton (47-26) was able to jump out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a pair of unearned runs in the 3rd Inning, including an RBI single from 1B Cody Ehlers, and a solo homer in the 4th Inning by 3B Aarom Baldiris. Meanwhile Trenton starter Jeff Marquez worked out of jams in the 1st and 3rd innings to keep the shutout in tact.

In the 5th Inning, Erie (40-33) got one-out singles from CF Clete Thomas and RF Matt Joyce followed by a three-run homer from SS Mike Hollimon to tie the game at 3-3. After a walk and an an infield hit, C Steve Torrealba singled home DH Jackson Melian with the lead run for the SeaWolves. LF Pedro Cotto then added an RBI single off reliever Mike Gardner for a 5-3 lead. Marquez 98-4) took the loss allowing five runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings.

The Erie bullpen did the rest of the work, holding Trenton to one infield hit over the final five innings of the game. Kevin Ardoin (3-4) worked 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief for the win, his second against the Thunder this season. After Danny Zell followed with 1 1/3 innings of relief, 40-year old former Major Leaguer Alan Mills worked the 9th Inning for his 4th save.

The series concludes on Monday at 7:05 PM. Alan Horne (7-3, 2.42) starts for Trenton against Erie's Andrew Kown (2-4, 4.37).
