Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

The Binghamton Mets scored four runs in back-to-back innings, beating the Harrisburg Senators 8-3 at NYSEG Stadium Sunday. The win ends Binghamton's losing streak at four.

Harrisburg (27-48) took a 1-0 lead in the first on Dan Dement's two-out, inside-the-park home run off Marcos Carvajal. Carvajal then allowed the first two runners to reach in the second before retiring the next 15 in a row.

Meanwhile, the B-Mets' (31-40) offense went to work. With one out in the second, Jose Reyes drew a one-out walk against Dan Foli before Robinson Cancel singled and J.E. Cruz was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Carvajal, who hit a comebacker to Foli (0-2). However, Foli threw the ball away for an error that allowed Reyes to score. Corey Coles followed with a base hit to left that brought in Cancel before Mark Kiger's two-run single scored Cruz and Carvajal for a 4-1 B-Mets lead.

Binghamton tacked on four more in the third. Caleb Stewart and Reyes began the frame with back-to-back doubles, the latter scoring Stewart, before Cancel ripped a two-run homer over the leftfield fence. Cruz then walked, moved to second on Carvajal's sacrifice bunt and scored on a throwing error to put the B-Mets ahead 8-1. Carvajal (2-5) retired his 15th consecutive batter to start the seventh before Steven Mortimer singled and Frank Diaz hit a two-run homer. The righthander struck out seven over a season-high 6 2/3 innings of work before Salvador Aguilar and Carlos Muñiz followed with 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief.

Monday, the B-Mets wrap up their four-game series against the Harrisburg Senators. Michael Devaney (2-5, 4.85) gets the start for the B-Mets against lefty Mike O'Connor (0-0, 3.86) of Harrisburg. Game time is 7:05 from NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 12:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: Dement has driven in eight of Harrisburg's 16 runs in the series...B-Mets starters have gone six or more innings seven times in the last 10 games...four of Binghamton's eight runs were unearned.
