Five-Run Eighth Gives Kansas City Series Win

FARGO, N.D. - The Kansas City T-Bones (44-48) capitalized on late miscues by the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (52-39) as they rallied from a 7-1 deficit with eight runs over their final three innings in a 9-7 win at Newman Outdoor Field.
Fargo jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Brett Davis in the second inning on an RBI groundout by Justin Justice and two-run single from Jeff Stevens. Following two scoreless innings, the RedHawks touched Davis for three more runs in the fifth, plating the first two on a home run by Nic Jackson. Jeremiah Piepkorn then homered on the next pitch for a 6-0 RedHawks advantage.
Davis allowed six runs on nine hits over five innings in his third professional start. Piepkorn finished the series with home runs in each of the four games.
Fargo starter Scott Fogelson held the T-Bones to just two hits over five scoreless innings before leaving in favor of Nick Fellman to begin the sixth. Fogelson's hits came over the course of 68 pitches while Fellman surrendered singles to each of the three batters he faced on just five pitches. Kansas City pushed their first run across later in the inning on a bases-loaded wild pitch by Jeremy Hauer to make the score 6-1.
Brady Martinez, who signed with Kansas City prior to the game, allowed Fargo's final run on two hits in the bottom of the sixth. Martinez returns to the T-Bones after going 4-1 with a 3.42 ERA over 71 innings and 48 relief appearances with them last season.
The T-Bones started their rally with a two-run seventh against T.J. Stanton, using two hits and two Fargo errors to pull within four, 7-3. Stanton then allowed the first three batters to reach in the eighth, capping off his outing with an RBI double by Ryan Fox. Aharon Eggleston drove in the second run of the frame with an RBI groundout before Greg Jacobs singled off closer Tim Lavigne (0-1) to make the score 7-6. After a two-out error extended the inning, Craig Hurba capped off the five-run frame with a two-run double, giving the T-Bones an 8-7 lead.
Stanton was charged with five runs, three earned, on four hits in one and one-thirds innings. Lavigne allowed the final T-Bones run on an RBI single by Fox in the ninth, taking the loss after surrendering three runs, one earned, on four hits in one and one-thirds innings.
Chris Rhoads (6-4) earned the victory for Kansas City, holding Fargo to just one hit over one and one-thirds innings of relief. Payton Tweddale retired both batters he faced to end the eighth and Nate Cotton threw a perfect ninth to secure his 11th save of the season.
Fox finished three-for-five with two RBI to highlight the victory. Every hitter but Zach Penprase for Fargo got a hit in the contest. The RedHawks' shortstop finished 0-for-five in the contest.
Kansas City heads to Joliet for a four-game series against the JackHammers to finish the regular season. Derek Duclos (1-3, 6.26) takes the mound for the T-Bones in game one tomorrow night opposite Rory Shortell (3-6, 5.34) and Joliet. First pitch is set for 7:05.
