Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The Kansas City T-Bones won the rubber-match game Thursday 9-7 at Newman Outdoor Field for a getaway-day victory that gives the team a three-game to one series-win. RedHawks starter LHP Scott Fogelson was finesse in his first start since July 29th. He pitched 5.0 scoreless innings of work and fanned six, but was designated the no-decision.
In the second-inning, RedHawks 3B Jeremiah Piepkorn cued a ball through the right-hole for a leadoff single. 1B Ruben Salazar singled Piepkorn to second and 2B Carlo Cota drew a walk. With the shift on and a dead-pull-hitter at the plate, LF Justin Justice pushed Piepkorn home for the first-run of the game. C Jeff Stevens singled Salazar and Cota home to give the RedHawks 3-0 lead.
The RedHawks doubled their lead in the fifth. LF Donzell McDonald worked a leadoff walk and nabbed second for his second stolen-base of the game. CF Nic Jackson and 3B Jeremiah Piepkorn bopped back-to-back solo-shots for a 6-0 lead.
Fogelson was lifted in favor of RHP Nick Fellman in the sixth. Fellman gave-up three consecutive singles to CF Aharon Eggleston, RF Greg Jacobs, DH Luis Terrero and the T-Bones benefited from a wild pitch to get on the board in the sixth.
The T-Bones rallied for a pair of runs in the seventh. SS Jeff Helps and LF Ryan Fox teamed-up for back-to-back singles and the T-Bones benefited from two defensive miscues; a Cota fielding error and a Piepkorn throwing error.
In the eighth, the T-Bones pecked away at the lead again. 3B Jacob Blackwood hit a right-field flare and Fox flew a ball over the head of McDonald for an RBI double. With the infield drawn-in, Eggleston pushed home Helps to make it 7-5 and the T-Bones batted around for an 8-7 lead. T-Bones RHP Nate Cotton pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 11th save of the season.
The RedHawks hit the road for a four-game series against the first-place Gary SouthShore RailCats. RHP Garry Bakker will get the ball for the RedHawks and the RailCats will send RHP Garret Holleran to the mound. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
