Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - For the second time in three games, the Battle Creek Battle Jacks surrendered eight unanswered runs. With the game tied 3-3 in the eighth, the Traverse City Pit Spitters put up a five-spot to take game one on Tuesday.
The Battle Jacks plated two in the second. Joey Grabanski delivered with an RBI double to deep left center, and a two-out, RBI single to right by Isaiah Gibbs doubled the lead.
In the bottom of the second, Trey Truitt singled through the left side with two runners on. But, Pat Mills launched a laser home and Aaron Dolney applied the tag to nab Brennen Dorighi at home.
Gibbs came through again in the fifth. He walloped a triple to straightaway center to give the Battle Jacks a 3-0 cushion.
Then, the Pit Spitters tied it in the bottom of the frame. An error and RBI singles for Alec Atkinson and Camden Traficante knotted the game at three apiece.
Adam Berghorst got the start for the Battle Jacks and pitched nearly seven innings. He yielded just one earned run.
Everything fell apart for the Battle Jacks in the eighth. Colin Summerhill hit a go-ahead RBI single, which was followed by two-run singles by Dorighi and Hunter Tabb, to hand the Pit Spitters and 8-3 edge.
Derek Clark pitched three hitless innings of relief to earn the win for Traverse City. He struck out four and walked just one.
The Pit Spitters (23-20) host the Battle Jacks (20-23) again Wednesday. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. ET.
