Kenosha Kingfish News Release
The Kenosha Kingfish blew out the Battle Creek Battle Jacks 11-2 at Historic Simmons Field in the series finale at Historic Simmons Field Monday night.
With the win, the Kingfish evened out the four-game series and season series at 2-2 and 5-5.
Kenosha put up three runs in the first frame to get out to an early 3-0 lead. Brady Counsell plated Parker Stinson and Jay Beshears on an early double, and newcomer Zack Carinci plated Counsell on an E6 on the infield.
Battle Creek responded with a run of their own in the top of the third on a Billy Hancock broken-bat single that scored Patrick Mills after Mills hit a triple. Taylor Darden showed up for the Kingfish in the bottom half of the inning with a two-RBI single that scored Carinci and Gage Williams. This gave Kenosha an early 5-1 lead.
Jay Beshears got it going for the Kingfish in the fourth frame with a single that sent Stinson sprinting across home plate, and Counsell slapped a single to left that kept the line moving and scored Beshears to make it a 7-1 ball game.
The Kenosha scoring onslaught continued in the fifth frame, as Darden hit a double that sent Drake Herrera home and Counsell hit a single off of the left field wall to send Darden and Stinson running for the last 90 feet. This blew the game open to give the Kingfish a 10-1 lead.
The Battle Jacks tacked on their second and last run of the game in the top of the eighth frame off of a Jace Matkin single that scored Hancock. Stinson responded on behalf of the Kingfish with a double that sent Williams home to solidify the score at 11-2.
Counsell, named Northwoods League Player of the Night, went 3-for-6 with a season-high five RBIs, a run and a double on the day.
Hancock led the Battle Creek bats by going 3-for-4 at the plate with one run, RBI and walk.
Every Kenosha hitter reached base on at least one occasion.
2022 Northwoods League All-Star Clark Candiotti (3-2) got the win after pitching five innings of one-run ball while allowing six runs, walking one and striking out five.
Ben Harris (0-1) got the loss in his Northwoods League debut after allowing a pair of earned runs on one hit, three walks and a strikeout.
The Kingfish (3-3) sit alone at third place in the Great Lakes East, while the Battle Jacks (2-4) sit in a three-way tie for third.
Kenosha will travel to Kalamazoo to take on the Growlers (2-4) for a two-game road stint. First pitch will be at 5:35 PM CST at Homer Stryker Field.
