Rockford RiverHawks News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. - Five RiverHawks were voted into the Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, July 13 at Falconi Field in Washington, Pa.
Shortstop Olmo Rosario is the only âHawk in the West Division's starting lineup, but he is joined on the team by reserve infielder Aaron McEachran, catcher Gooby Gerlits, outfielder Doug Schutt, and pitcher Joe Barbosa. League managers, coaches, broadcasters and beat writers voted.
Rosario is seventh in the league in batting, with a .365 average, four home runs and 27 RBI. McEachran is hitting .329 with seven home runs and 28 RBI and has tied the RiverHawks record with his current 19-game hitting streak. Gerlits is tied for the team lead in home runs with McEachran at seven apiece. Gerlits has driven in 21 runs in 31 games. Schutt is hitting .316 with a .398 on-base percentage as Rockford's leadoff batter. He has a league-leading 18 stolen bases and is among the league leaders in runs scored, with 34. Barbosa is 3-0 with a 2.13 ERA, sixth-best in the league. He's thrown back-to-back, four-hit shutouts and has walked just seven batters in 55 innings pitched.
Jamie Keefe of the Florence Freedom will serve as the East Division manager. Fran Riordan of Kalamazoo will manage the West Division. Each skipper is the manager of the team in first place as of Tuesday's cutoff point. Each manager can make up to three additional selections. Those selections, as well as the coaching staffs for each division, will be announced Wednesday.
Last year, the RiverHawks led at the deadline. Six RiverHawks were voted onto the team and Bob Koopmann, last year's manager, named two more Rockford players to the roster. Aaron McEachran is the lone returning all-star on the Rockford roster from last year's team record of eight.
The division that wins the All-Star Game will have home-field advantage in this year's championship series.
The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. Tickets are available by calling the box office at 964-BALL. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
