Asheville Tourists News Release

LEXINGTON- Casey Golden and company brought the bats this evening. Asheville drilled five Home Runs and scored ten runs on 16 hits. They still lost by eight. The Lexington Legends kept pace and scored four runs in three separate innings to beat Asheville 18-10.

The pitching, for both sides, was awful. With one exception. Derrik Watson. Asheville's right-handed reliever was the only pitcher on both teams who could consistently record outs. Watson finished with 2.1 innings pitched but was saddled with a run after the Tourists fell asleep on an infield pop-up 20 feet from the plate; that turned into a double.

Golden led the way with two more Home Runs and four RBI. Golden has hit eight of this 17 Home Runs this season against Lexington and recorded his third multi-Home Run game verses the Legends this year. Chad Spanberger, Ryan Vilade, and Ramon Marcelino all added solo shots.

The only player who did not officially reach base in the game was Lexington's MJ Melendez. Melendez went 0-for-6 but did bring in two runs when he reached on an error in the eighth. The only innings in which either team did not score were the top of the first and the top of the eighth for Asheville; and the bottom of the third and bottom of the seventh for Lexington.

The game was back-and-forth until the Legends scored four runs in back-to-back innings. Asheville held two leads; 5-4 and 7-6. When it was all finished, the two teams took 3 hours and 59 minutes to play eight and a half innings.
