ABOUT LAST GAME: Despite an 11-2 loss to the GreenJackets, Edgardo Fermin extended his hitting streak to 13 games on Sunday evening at SRP Park. Only five of Augusta's 11 runs were earned in the game. Columbia's bullpen was solid - Aaron Ford, Carlos Hernandez, and Taylor Henry combined for 2.2 scoreless innings.
PUTTING IT IN PLAY: Fireflies' hitters have only struck out 571 times this season - the lowest total in the South Atlantic League. Since the all-star break, Columbia has been punched out on just 48 occasions (an average of 4.8 per game). This is by far the fewest in the league so far during the second half of the season...
Offense - Fewest Strikeout Totals (Second Half)
1. Columbia: 48
2. Greensboro: 73
3. Lakewood: 74
CATCHING FIRE, Pt. I: Edgardo Fermin's season-best 13-game hitting streak is tied for the longest active streak in the South Atlantic League. Cameron Baranek (Greensboro) is also on a 13-game streak. Fermin is hitting .358 (19-for-53) over the 13-game hit stretch(since June 14).
CATCHING FIRE, Pt. II: Hansel Moreno is currently on a eight-game hit streak, his best stretch of the season. In fact, the 21-year-old has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games (the switch-hitter is batting .370 - 17-for-46 - during that stretch which dates back to June 8). During the eight-game hit streak, Moreno holds a .357 batting average (10-for-28). He was batting .177 on June 5 and has since raised his average to .248.
JUNE STARS: The Fireflies finished June with an 11-14 record but the pitching staff posted a superb 3.27 ERA. Ten different hurlers wound up with sub-3.00 ERAs during the month.
