
Five errors cause Power to lose early leads

Charleston, WV - The West Virginia Power lost a pair of two-run leads on Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park and committed five errors in a 9-5 loss to the Hickory Crawdads.
West Virginia took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Kyle Morgan walked with the bases loaded to plate Tony Sanchez. Hickory tied the game a in the top of the third when Leonel De Los Santos scored on a passed ball but the Power regained the lead in the next half inning on Danny Bomback's two-out RBI double. The Power added another run in the bottom of the fourth on Starling Marte's solo homer, it was his third of the season.
Hickory plated a pair of runs in the fifth inning to tie it up. Jared Bolden's sacrifice fly plated De Los Santos and Garcia scored when Vinny DiFazio reached on a fielder's choice. West Virginia scored twice in the bottom of the inning to take their third lead of the game. Bomback's groundout scored Kyle Morgan before Bobby Spain scored on a squeeze play. Adenson Chourio laid a bunt down on the right side of the infield to plate Spain.
The Crawdads answered with a five run sixth inning to take the lead. De Los Santos tied the game with a two-run homer, his fourth of the season and Garcia followed with a base hit. Mike Hollander kept the inning alive with a two-out base hit before a drop third strike allowed Jared Bolden to reach and DiFazio gave the Crawdads the lead with a bases clearing three run triple. DiFazio struck again in the ninth inning with a solo homerun off Ryan Kelly to drive in his fifth run of the night.
Andrew Doyle (1-1) retired all five batters he faced over an inning and two-thirds of relief to score the victory. Corey Ragsdale (2) tossed three perfect innings in relief and struck out six batters to score the save. Duke Welker (0-11) allowed all five runs in the sixth inning on four hits and was tagged with the loss. Doyle and Ragsdale kept the Power off the bases over the final four innings of the contest.
West Virginia fell to 61-67 overall, and 34-24 in the second half after the loss, while the Crawdads improved to 61-69 overall and 28-33 in the second half after the victory. Danny Bomback paced the Power with a two hit performance. Kyle Morgan reached three times in four trips to the plate and scored a run for the sixth game in a row. Tony Sanchez's walk in the first inning extended his on base streak to 15 games. Bobby Spain singled in the fifth inning to extend his hitting streak to six games.
West Virginia will continue the three game series with the Hickory Crawdads at Appalachian Power Park on Sunday night. The Power will start right hander Brett Lorin (1-1, 1.93) and the Crawdads will counter with right hander Wilfredo Boscan (6-7, 3.35). The first pitch will be delivered at 5:05 PM.
