Nicasio Not Enough In Asheville's Third Straight Loss

(Bowling Green, KY) Kiel Roling smacked his 19th homerun of the season in a 4-3 loss on Saturday from Bowling Green to open a three game roadtrip. Juan Nicasio was hit with the loss despite allowing just one earned run in seven innings of work. The loss leaves Asheville in first place by at least 2.5 games over Augusta with nine left to play. The loss is the Tourists third in a row - all by one run.

The Hot Rods scored three unearned runs in the first inning off of Juan Nicasio to take a 3-0 lead. Anthony Scelfo doubled to begin the inning and scored on a two-out error. Mike Sheridan followed with two-run homer, his 14th of the season

Kiel Roling put the Tourists on the board 3-1 in the second inning with his team-leading 19th homerun of the season. The Hot Rods got the run right back in the bottom of the second on Anthony Scelfo's second double of the game for a 4-1 lead.

Asheville was not able to get much else off of Bowling Green starter Matt Moore. Lefthander Moore struck out ten and allowed just two runs on two hits in 4 2/3 innings. Moore was pulled after 85 pitches with a runner on first base in the fifth inning after walking Scott Robinson .With two outs, Jimmy Cesario tripled off reliever Neil Schenk to plate Robinson. Jordan Pacheco followed up with a single to cut the lead to 4-3. Cesario.

Juan Nicasio carried Asheville into the later innings going seven innings on 117 pitches in the tough loss. Nicasio (8-3) allowed just one earned run on nine strikeouts with one walk in his third loss of the season

Josh Satow pitched the last two innings for his 20th save of the season for Bowling Green. Michael Marbry struck out two in a scoreless eighth for Asheville. Game two of the series will be on Sunday at 2:05 with Dan Houston (7-9, 3.88) on the mound. All the action can be heard on 100.7 WRES FM.
