Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

EASTLAKE, OH - The Lakewood BlueClaws used clutch hitting and strong pitching to best the Lake County Captains in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday by the score of 3-2.

In a 2-1 ballgame, with the Captains (33-27) out in front, the BlueClaws (31-27) put together a two-run fifth inning to take the lead for good enroute to their victory. Troy Hanzawa started the inning off with a double, he was moved to third before being singled home by Anthony Gose. Gose was caught stealing, so with no one on, Travis d'Arnaud hit his 13th home run of the season, and a game winner.

Matthew Way (3-1) took the hill for the start and went the distance for his first complete game as a BlueClaw. He has gone seven innings on three occasions now in his five starts in Lakewood. Way struggled in the Captains two-run second, but came out to dominate the rest of the game. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Danny Salazar (5-7) took the loss and struggled in his five innings as he allowed all three BlueClaws runs, including the home run that broke the Captains back.

The BlueClaws have won four games in a row and look to sweep the Captains in game two of the doubleheader which will begin shortly after game one. In game two, Rob Roth (4-3) will make a spot start for the BlueClaws and Trey Haley (4-7) will look for the same stuff that he used in his last outing, a five-inning shutout last week in Lakewood.
