Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

GREENSBORO, NC - Joe Serafin was dominant in his seven innings on the mound on Saturday night at NewBridge Bank Park, helping Kannapolis to a 7-2 win over the Grasshoppers.

Serafin allowed a first inning home run to Ryan Keedy, but little else in his best start of the season with the Intimidators. Greensboro managed just five hits in the seven innings Serafin (3-1) was on the hill. He also struck out six and walked one.

And while Serafin was mowing down the ‘Hoppers, Kannapolis was posting a balanced offensive attack. Every starter had at least one hit with the Intimidators combining for 14 hits.

Jon Gilmore delivered the game's biggest hit, smoking a double to right-centerfield with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh to give Kannapolis a 7-1 lead. The hit also extended Gilmore's season-best hitting streak to 15 games.

Eduardo Escobar remained red hot, chipping in three hits. Kenny Williams and Brandon Short also had multi-hit evenings.

Kevin Asselin pitched two innings out of the ‘pen to close out the game, though it was far from pretty. The right-hander walked three, including Thomas Hickman with the bases loaded, and gave up a pair of hits to allow Greensboro to get within five.
