Fisher's Walk-Off Homer Negates Riders' Late Rally

Frisco RoughRiders News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, staged a dramatic ninth-inning rally Thursday night at Whataburger Field, but Derek Fisher's walk-off home run powered the Hooks to a 6-5 win in the series opener.
Fisher's home run came against reliever Jose Leclerc (0-5) to lead off the ninth inning. It was his second homer of the game, after he extended the lead for the Hooks (17-15) to 3-0 in the fourth with a two-run shot to left field. Fisher has four home runs in eight games against the RoughRiders (23-9) this season.
The walk-off blast came minutes after the RoughRiders put up three runs to tie the game, 5-5, in the top of the ninth. The inning began with five consecutive base hits, including a two-run single from Lewis Brinson and a game-tying RBI single off the bat of Ronald Guzman.
Despite having runners on the corners with nobody out after Guzman's single, Frisco could not take the lead in the ninth. The RoughRiders put runners on base in every inning but the second but stranded 10 runners and finished the night 5-for-18 with runners in scoring position.
The Hooks had just five hits in the game, but three were home runs. Aside from Fisher's two long balls, Evan Gattis hit a two-run shot in the sixth against RoughRiders starter Connor Sadzeck that increased Corpus Christi's lead to 5-1.
Sadzeck gave up four hits in seven innings, but two of them cleared the fence. He only allowed baserunners in the two run-scoring innings and finished with one walk and seven strikeouts in a no-decision.
The series continues Friday with a doubleheader, starting at 5:35 p.m. The Riders have a pair of right-handers scheduled to start the two games, with Sam Wolff (4-1, 4.50 ERA) slated for game one and David Perez (1-0, 7.50 ERA) expected to make his first start of the season in the second game. Corpus Christi will counter with right-hander Keegan Yuhl (1-1, 3.25 ERA) in game one and has yet to announce a starter for the second game.
The RoughRiders next return home on Friday, May 20 to begin a four-game series against the San Antonio Missions. The homestand begins with Magic Night on the 20th, featuring Michael Grandinetti, and Saturday is Military Appreciation Night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Tickets for those games, and the other two games of the homestand are available now online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
