Frisco RoughRiders News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, recorded just one hit in the second game of a doubleheader against the Corpus Christi Hooks, falling by a score of 6-0 Friday night at Whataburger Field.

The RoughRiders (23-11) had trouble figuring out starter Evan Grills (1-0), who made his Double-A debut for the Hooks (19-15). Frisco's only hit off Grills came on a leadoff single by Ryan Cordell to begin the game. The hit extended Cordell's on-base streak to a minor league-leading 33 games.

The Riders only other runners against Grills came on a hit-by-pitch for Zach Cone in the second and Kellin Deglan's walk to begin the third. Grills logged a seven-inning complete game, keeping the Riders scoreless on the lone hit, while walking just one and striking out five to pick up the win.

Meanwhile, the Hooks jumped all over Rider starter David Perez (1-1), especially in a four-run third inning. Derek Fisher hit his third home run of the series with a two-run shot to left-center field that made it 5-0 Corpus Christi. Fisher has five home runs in nine games against the RoughRiders this season.

Danry Vasquez also hit a home run for Corpus Christi, his first of the season, in the second to put the Hooks ahead, 1-0. Leadoff hitter Teoscar Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Frisco will look to snap its season-long four-game losing streak in the fourth game of the series Saturday night. Left-hander Victor Payano (4-0, 3.24 ERA) is slated to make the start, going against right-hander David Paulino (0-1, 2.08 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and live coverage can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.

The RoughRiders next return home on Friday, May 20 to begin a four-game series against the San Antonio Missions. The homestand begins with Magic Night on the 20th, featuring Michael Grandinetti, and Saturday is Military Appreciation Night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Tickets for those games, and the other two games of the homestand are available now online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
