Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, OH - After heavy rains in Burlington when the Dayton Dragons (22-20, 57-55) and Burlington Bees (17-26, 52-58) met in early May forcing two double headers, the Dragons and Bees finally got to play a single nine inning game for the first time in 2006 on Saturday night. The Dragons moved to 5-0 versus the Bees on the season, riding the 6.1 innings of two run baseball from Carlos Fisher (WP, 9-5) and key hits from Josh Holden and Eric Eymann to pick up a 4-3 victory over Burlington in the first game of a four game series in front of 8,870 at Fifth Third Field.

After a scoreless first inning, the Dragons jumped on Bees starter Matt Kniginyzky (LP, 8-4) for three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Adam Rosales led the inning off with a single and moved to second on a Kniginyzky wild pitch. B.J. Szymanski moved Rosales to third with a fly out to left. With two down in the inning, Rosales came home on the second Kniginyzky wild pitch of the inning to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead. Craig Tatum was drilled by a Kniginyzky pitch with and moved to second base on the first of Eymann's three hits on the night, a single to center. Holden gapped a triple to right center scoring both runners and the Dragons led 3-0.

The Bees got to Fisher for a pair of single runs, scoring in the fifth and in the seventh. Omar Pena knocked in the first Burlington run with a two out single to right in the fifth inning. Carlos Arroyo got the Bees to within one, at 3-2, with a fielder's choice grounder in the seventh inning off new Dragon pitcher Derrik Lutz (ND). Jeff Howell, the last batter Fisher faced before getting lifted in the seventh, singled with one down and was put on the pitching line of the Dayton starter.

Eymann extended the Dragons advantage back to two runs, at 4-2, with a one out solo shot to left center in the home half of the seventh inning. After a single to center by Gerardo Cabrera, who replaced Holden defensively in the sixth, Kniginyzky was lifted in favor of Chris Hayes (ND).

Lutz tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief getting through the seventh and eighth and was replaced by Damian Ursin (SV, 4) to open the ninth. The Bees made it interesting in their last at bat scoring a run and putting two runners on with one down. Szymanski, who earlier made a great sliding catch to rob Miguel Vega of an extra base hit, dove a missed a drive to right by Howell, who ended up at third with a triple when the ball scooted all the way to the corner. Howell would score on a single to center by Brady Everett to cut the lead to 4-3. Valentino Arce came on as a pinch runner and moved to second on an infield single by Pena. With one down and Arce at second and Pena at first, Ethein Santana lined to Rosales at short who threw to Mike Griffin at second to double off Arce to end the game.

The Dragons and Bees continue the four game series Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Field with a 2 p.m. first pitch. RHP Daniel Guerrero (1-2, 5.27 ERA) will get the start for Dayton, while Burlington counters with RHP Chris Nicoll (4-7, 2.82 ERA). 1410 ESPN Radio WING AM will carry the game live beginning with the Dragons pre game show at 6:30 PM.
