Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays fell to the South Bend Silver Hawks by a score of 8-3 on Saturday night at C.O. Brown. Untimely errors are what cost the D-Rays the win.
Wade Davis got the nod for the Rays and went five innings. Davis had five strikeouts to go along with the five hits that he allowed. The Silver Hawks scored two runs off of Davis with only one of them earned. The Rays had the lead when he left the game but lost the win when the bullpen fell apart.
Drew Bigda entered in the sixth frame and gave up four hits with two walks and four earned runs before being pulled later that inning. Billy Evers came in to get the D-Rays out of the inning and walked in a run before getting Brian Byrne to fly out. Evers, who saw his first action since June 30th, finished his outing with 1.1 innings pitched and allowed three hits and one earned run.
Cesar Suarez had a solid night at the plate by going 3-4 with one RBI. Christian Lopez and Colt Simmons each tallied two hits and a run scored.
Every player in the lineup for South Bend registered a hit. Five Silver Hawks recorded two hits. Top prospect Justin Upton went 1-4 with two walks and an RBI.
The Devil Rays and Silver Hawks will face off again in the second game of the four-game series on Sunday at 3:35pm. It's McCullough Chiropractic Family Sunday. United Educational Credit Union Kids Club member can attend the game free of charge. All kids get the opportunity to run the bases after the game just like the pros.
