Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
FOX CITIES STADIUM -- Erik Lis was a double shy of the cycle and knocked in six runs as 6,993 fans watched the Beloit Snappers defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 14-4. Beloit built an early 7-0 lead and cruised to the victory. William Luque, Edward Ovalle, and Matt Betsill joined Lis in Beloit's three-hit club as the Snappers banged out a total of twenty hits.
Beloit (60-51 overall, 25-18 second half) jumped on Rattler starting pitcher Paul Fagan right away. The first three batters of the game reached base on a pair of singles and a hit batsman. Lis singled in a run. Eli Tintor followed with another RBI single. Fagan got a double play ball for two outs. But, Juan Portes launched a three-run homer for a 5-0 lead.
Ovalle singled in a run in the top of the second inning and Tintor hit a homer off the scoreboard in the third inning for a 7-0 lead.
Chris Minaker lined a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning to get the Rattlers (40-73, 13-30) on the scoreboard.
But, Beloit answered with a three run homer by Lis in the fourth. Then, Lis added a two-run triple in the fifth. A passed ball in the top of the sixth put the Snappers up 14-2.
Adam Moore hit his first professional home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning and the Rattlers had their third run of the game.
Lis had a chance for the cycle in the top of the seventh inning, but he grounded out to end the frame.
Ron Garth hit his team leading seventh home run of the season for the Rattlers in the bottom of the eighth inning to put a cap on the scoring for the evening.
The near record crowd for a Rattler game at Fox Cities Stadium was the second highest single game attendance total. The record of 7,722 was set on July 25, 2003.
