Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine- The New Hampshire Fisher Cats hit early and often on Wednesday and eventually finished with a 6-3 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs. The team knocked around 11 hits in three plus innings setting the tone for the night. The game lasted two hours and thirty nine minutes and was played in front of 4,182 at Hadlock Field.
The Fisher Cats put three on the board in the top of the third inning, after a one spot in the second, putting the game out of reach for the Sea Dogs. The Fisher Cats combined for five consecutive singles to begin the frame. Kevin Howard and Sean Ochinko capped that stretch by each driving in a run. Mark Sobolewski then scored the final run in the inning on a force out hit by Brad Glenn putting the Fisher Cats in front 4-1.
The Sea Dogs scored right out of the gate. Hazelbaker doubled to right field in the bottom of the first and then swiped third for his 14 stolen base of the season. Bryce Brentz followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Hazelbaker putting the Sea Dogs in front 1-0.
The Sea Dogs got back on the board in the sixth inning after the four-run 11-hit outburst by New Hampshire in the first three frames. Jackie Bradley Jr. led-off with a double (3) and came around to score on a Marquez Smith double three batters later. Bradley had another good game going 2-for-5 raising his batting average to .367. Bradley's two hit night was good for his fourth multi-hit game in his seven Sea Dog starts.
The Dogs inched a run closer in the ninth with a Matt Spring blast over the Maine Monster in left field cutting the Fisher Cats lead in half 6-3. Peter Hissey then hit a ground rule double and Dent drew a walk immediately after but the rally was cut short by Aaron Loup who struck out Zach Gentile and Bradley to earn his third save of the year.
Jeremy Kehrt (2-1, 5.36) started his second game for the Sea Dogs on the season and set season highs in strikeouts (6) and hits (11). Kehrt took the loss throwing five innings and giving up four runs.
Right handed pitcher Deck McGuire (3-9, 6.27) earned the win for the Fisher Cats. McGuire went six innings deep giving up two runs on five hits. He also walked two and struck out four in his outing.
