Rock Cats Get Former Big League Pitcher

New Britain Rock Cats News Release


New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, announced today that RHP Sharion Martis has been acquired by the Twins' organization from the Pittsburgh Pirates and assigned to New Britain. LHP Andrew Albers has been placed on the disabled list (back). Yesterday, RHP Luis Perdomo was promoted to Triple-A Rochester, RHP Dakota Watts was promoted to New Britain from Class-A Ft. Myers and OF Rene Tosoni was placed on the disabled list. Earlier this week, RHP Bobby Lanigan and LHP Caleb Theilbar were promoted to Rochester and LHP Edgar Ibarra moved up to the Rock Cats from Ft. Myers... The Rock Cats have made 8 roster moves in the past 7 days.

Martis, 25, who pitched for the Washington Nationals in 2008 and 2009 has joined the Twins organization and assigned to New Britain. He joins the Rock Cats after going 6-2 with a 4.56 ERA in 11 games (8 starts) with the Eastern League's Altoona Curve. He began this season at Triple-A Indianapolis. The right-hander came up with the Nationals organization and reached the Major Leagues in 2008. He made his MLB debut, September 4, 2008 and was the losing pitcher against the Atlanta Braves. The Willemstad, Curacao native recorded his first Major League win, September 23 vs the Florida Marlins.

The Rock Cats continue their homestand tonight against the New York Yankees affiliate, the Trenton Thunder at 6:35 PM.
