New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
PORTLAND, Maine - Deck McGuire won for the first time since May 17, tossing six solid innings to beat the Portland Sea Dogs, 6-2, on Wednesday night. McGuire allowed just five hits while his offense pounded out 15 to take the first two games of the four-game series in Maine.
McGuire allowed a first inning run on a one-out double, a stolen base, and a sac fly to give Portland a 1-0 lead. The Fisher Cats (30-46) answered right back in the top of the second with John Tolisano picking up an RBI on a force out to tie the game at one.
The third inning lifted the Fisher Cats in front for good as New Hampshire loaded the bases with three straight hits to begin the frame. A fourth hit from Kevin Howard, Tuesday's hero, gave the Fisher Cats a 2-1 lead. Sean Ochinko delivered the fifth straight hit - and another run - before a force out from Brad Glenn capped the three-run inning for a 4-1 lead.
McGuire carried that three-run lead all the way to the sixth when a two-out double made it a 4-2 game. The righty was able to finish off the inning to throw his fifth quality start of the season. He allowed a pair of runs on five hits to improve to 3-9.
After McGuire left, the Fisher Cats scored two more runs in the seventh. Mark Sobolewski doubled home Mike McDade before scoring himself on a sac fly from Brian Van Kirk for a 6-2 advantage.
Aaron Loup (S, 3) pitched the final three innings for the Fisher Cats to earn his third save of the year. New Hampshire had guaranteed at least a split of the series heading into game three on Thursday night.
That third game will begin at 7 PM from Hadlock Field. RHP Yohan Pino (4-2, 3.08) takes the hill against Sea Dogs RHP Anthony Ranaudo (1-2, 6.67). Radio coverage begins at 6:45 PM with Tom Gauthier on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return home to begin a fireworks-filled six-game homestand starting on the 4th of July against the Future Red Sox, the Portland Sea Dogs. Beginning with the Fourth, the Fisher Cats will host five consecutive nights of Atlas Fireworks during the stand. For the complete list of promotions and to order tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
