New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH -The New Hampshire Fisher Cats notched their third consecutive come-from-behind victory Monday night, downing the Bowie Baysox 5-3 after waiting out a 61-minute rain delay at Fisher Cats Ballpark. The win brought New Hampshire to within a game of first-place Portland in the Eastern League's Northern Division and snapped Bowie's league-best five-game winning streak.
New Hampshire (23-19) batted around in the third inning against Bowie starter and losing pitcher Hayden Penn (3-3) to erase a 2-0 deficit. Newcomer Ryan Roberts (2-for-3, R) blooped an infield single and advanced to third when Kevin Barker (2-for-4, HR, double, RBI, R) lofted a high fly ball that rightfielder Woody Cliffords lost sight of for a double. Maikel Jova followed with an infield single to score Roberts. Justin Singleton's ground out drove in Barker, and an error by Baysox shortstop Brandon Fahey on Raul Tablado's grounder allowed Jova to come home. The four-run inning was capped when Tablado scored on Vito Chiaravalloti's sacrifice fly to center.
Barker added his team-leading fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning against reliever Melqui Torres, a majestic blast that cleared the access road beyond the rightfield fence.
Starter and winning pitcher Cam Reimers (4-3) shook off a shaky first inning to win his third straight decision. Reimers allowed three runs on six hits over seven innings. He struck out four and walked one before handing the ball over to the bullpen. Ryan Houston retired the side in order in the eighth before Lee Gronkiewicz finished off for his 11th save in as many chances.
Bowie (22-21) took a 2-0 lead against Reimers with one out in the top of the first inning when Joey Hammond tripled off the rightfield wall, and Tripper Johnson followed with a two-run home run over the leftfield fence.
New Hampshire continues its series with Bowie Tuesday night at 6:35pm. Right-hander Shaun Marcum (6-1, 2.42) will look to become the Eastern League's first seven-game winner when he matches up with Bowie left-hander Brian Forystek (1-1, 3.73).
