New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- Rob Cosby drilled a single to the warning track in right field with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring Ryan Klosterman to give the New Hampshire Fisher Cats a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Trenton Thunder Tuesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
Cosby had struck out twice and grounded into two double plays before delivering the RELCO Enlightening Play of the Game off losing pitcher Scott Patterson. Patterson (2-1) retired the first two batters he faced in the ninth before Klosterman (1-for-2, 2B, RBI, R) doubled into the left field corner. Trenton (32-17) then opted to intentionally walk Juan Peralta (1-for-3, 2 BB, RBI), allowing Cosby to play the role of hero for New Hampshire (26-21).
The Thunder built a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on Noah Hall's third home run of the season, a two-run shot off Fisher Cats' starter Kurt Isenberg that just cleared the fence in right-center field.
Following a walk and a hit batsman in the top of the third inning, Matt Carson (2-for-4, R, RBI) stroked a single to right, scoring Jamal Strong to give the Thunder a 3-0 lead.
Isenberg would bear down and hold Trenton hitless over his final five innings of work. The left-hander allowed three runs on five hits in 7.1 innings, striking out three and walking three.
Tracy Thorpe (3-1) pitched 1.2 hitless, scoreless innings of relief to register the win. The right-hander walked one and struck out one as the Fisher Cats trimmed the Thunder's lead to five games in the Eastern League's Northern Division.
New Hampshire and Trenton play the second game of their three-game series at Merchantsauto.com Stadium Wednesday night at 6:35pm. Fisher Cats right-hander Yusaku Iriki (0-2, 8.00) will pitch against Trenton righty Tim Lavigne (0-0, 0.00). Radio coverage begins at 6:15pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network (610-AM-Manchester; 930-AM-Rochester; 1540-AM-Rochester) with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy.
