Fisher Cats blast Mets 14-4 Saturday afternoon

Binghamton, NY---The first five Fisher Cats to come to bat reached safely and scored runs and New Hampshire rolled to an easy 14-4 win Saturday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton.

Edgar Estanga (1-1) worked 3.1 innings of one-hit, scoreless relief to pick up his first Double-A win. He walked one and struck out three. Bubbie Buzachero also worked a scoreless inning in his first Fisher Cats appearance since the 2005 season.

In the top of the first inning, Brian Dopirak (2-for-5, RBI) doubled in the first run, David Cooper drove in two more with a single, Cody Haerther drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Adam Calderone (3-for-5, 3 RBI) singled in a fifth run.

The Mets (11-9) cut the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the second inning on a bases-loaded single by Mark Kiger off New Hampshire starter Brandon Magee.

Binghamton added a run in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by D.J. Wabick (2-for-5).

Luis Sanchez (2-for-4, 2 RBI) singled home Adam Calderone, who had tripled, in the top of the fourth inning to make it 6-3. That ended the day for Mets starter Mike Antonini (3-1), who lost for the first time this season after three wins.

The Fisher Cats (13-9) added four runs in the fifth inning, two scoring on a single by Calderone to make it 10-3. Binghamton reliever Nick Abel walked five batters while recording only one out before being lifted. In all, Mets pitchers yielded 13 hits and walked 10 Fisher Cat batters.

New Hampshire also scored two runs in the top of the seventh and top of the eighth inning. Jonathan Diaz picked up his first two RBI's of the season with a single in the eighth that made it 14-3.

The Mets scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning off Nate Starner on a Shawn Bowman sacrifice fly.

Every Fisher Cat player scored a run in the game. The 14 runs were the most the team has scored this season.

The series concludes Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm. RHP Randy Boone (2-0, 2.41) goes for New Hampshire against Binghamton RHP Dylan Owen. The game can heard starting with the BayRing Communications pre-game show at 12:45pm with Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
