ALTOONA, PA - The Curve suffered their worst loss of the season Saturday falling to the Erie SeaWolves 15-1 at Blair County Ballpark.
SeaWolves outfielder Joe Tucker brought in the first run of the night on a double to deep left. The second run of the second inning scored on a double play fielder's choice. Erie manufactured another run in the third on a Diek Scram groundout.
Brennan Boesch doubled in two more runs in the fourth with a rip down the right field line, and then scored on a single by Ryan Strieby. Diek Scream then singled to plate two more runs to give the SeaWolves a 7-0 lead.
Brad Corley got the Curve offense going with a solo home run in the fourth to bring Altoona within six.
Erie would continue to extend their lead in the sixth adding four more runs on only one base hit to extend the lead to 11-1. In the eighth Erie put up four runs for the third time in an inning to put the SeaWolves lead at 15-1.
Erie starter Luis Marte (2-2) threw seven innings giving up one run on five hits for his second win of the season.
Altoona (6-16) hopes to avoid the sweep Sunday afternoon with Brad Lincoln (0-2, 4.26) taking the mound. Erie will throw right hander Jonah Nickerson (0-2, 8.68). Sunday will by a special day at Blair County Ballpark as the Altoona Curve and the Altoona Mirror team up to present a tribute to the 1909 Pittsburg Pirates team. The Curve will wear 1909 Pittsburg Pirates throwback uniforms. Throughout the game, fans will have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction to bid on the jerseys worn by Curve players. All proceeds raised from the event will benefit a local charity - A Season for Sharing. Winning bidders will have a chance to meet the Curve player whose jersey they bid on and will have the opportunity to have that player sign the jersey.
Sunday's game will also feature a baseball card poster giveaway to the first 2,000 fans through the gates with nine different Curve players wearing the 1909 jerseys.
Great seats for Sunday's 3:05 p.m. game against the SeaWolves are still on sale and can be obtained by calling 877-99-CURVE to speak to a Curve ticketing associate, online at AltoonaCurve.com or in person at the Blair County Ballpark press box.
