
Fisher Cats blank Sea Dogs 5-0 for fifth straight win

Binghamton, NY- Kyle Drabek and Trystan Magnuson combined on a six-hit shutout as the Fisher Cats won their fifth straight, beating Portland 5-0 before 7,035 Saturday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
Adam Calderone (3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, 2R) knocked in the first three runs for the Fisher Cats (24-12). Jonathan Diaz and Brian Jeroloman drew walks in the bottom of the third inning off starter and loser Casey Kelly (0-3). Darin Mastroianni bunted them up before Calderone made it 1-0 with a single up the middle.
Calderone greeted reliever Tommy Hottovy with a solo home run, his sixth, in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 2-0 New Hampshire.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, Diaz again walked and Brian Jeroloman singled. Calderone knocked in his third run of the game with a single to make it 3-0. After Eric Thames singled, Brad Emaus drilled a bases-loaded double into the left field corner, to make it 5-0.
Kyle Drabek allowed six hits, all singles, in seven innings of shutout ball to improve to 5-3. Drabek did not walk anybody and struck out four. Trystan Magnuson worked two shutout innings in relief for New Hampshire.
Kelly worked 4.2 innings for Portland (19-15). He allowed two hits and one run while walking three and striking out six.
The Fisher Cats have won the first three games of the series and five-in-a-row overall. The series concludes Sunday afternoon at 1:35pm. New Hampshire sends right-hander Randy Boone (1-2, 2.70) to the mound against Portland right-hander Stephen Fife (2-1, 3.26). The Fisher Cats also welcomed their 2,000,000th fan in franchise history Saturday night. 10-year old Brendan Howard of Fremont, New Hampshire was the lucky fan who received a prize package valued at over $3,000.
