Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
An ugly start turned into a horrific Sunday afternoon for the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
The Goldeyes (20-16) were thumped 13-3 by the Kansas City T-Bones (14-21) to finish a three-game series in front of 5,074 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City.
Winnipeg still takes two of three games on the weekend and didn't lose any ground on first place St. Paul, who fell to the Gary SouthShore RailCats Sunday afternoon. The Goldeyes trail the Saints by a game and a half in the North Division.
Kansas City struck four times in the first inning off Goldeyes starter Ace Walker and it was only a sign of things to come. After Winnipeg got on the board with a single run in the fourth, the T-Bones put three more on the scoreboard in the fifth to take command of the game.
Winnipeg was able to post singles in the sixth and seventh innings, including a solo home run from Kody Kaiser, but Kansas City only lengthened their lead with two more in the seventh and four runs in the eighth.
Aside from Kaiser's homer, Price Kendall had a pair of RBI for the visitors.
Winnipeg stranded 10 runners on base.
Among the Goldeyes slayers for the T-Bones, Rico Washington went 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI.
Walker allowed six runs over four and a third innings and takes the loss, while KC starter TJ Large picks up the win.
Winnipeg used three relievers in the game, including outfielder Victor Ferrante, who got the final two outs in the eighth inning.
The Goldeyes now head to Sioux City for three games against the Explorers, beginning Monday night. Game time is 7 p.m. and all the action can be heard live on Sports Radio 1290, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m.
