WCL Victoria HabourCats

First Rainout in HarbourCats' History

July 24, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release

VICTORIA, B.C. -- Let's play two, I guess!

Some firsts are not fun, in particular the liquid sunshine impacting Victoria on Friday evening -- as much as this dry summer has led to the need for rain.

The HarbourCats were rained out for the first time in franchise history, with a cloudburst leading to gametime leaving no choice but to call it and schedule two games for Saturday.

Safety of the players was foremost in making the decision. That said, credit Walla Walla for winning the "catcher joust" and the dance-off by the players -- though those wins do not count in the West Coast League standings.

Two seven-inning games will be played -- 4pm, and 6:30pm, with gates opening at 3:30pm on Saturday.

Tickets from Friday's game can be used for Saturday's first game, or used for credit for a future game.

The HarbourCats are scheduled to throw right-handers Jonathan Buckley and Henry Omana in the two games on Saturday.

Major promotions are still in place, with team posters to be given away by Metropol, game cards for Super Mega Baseball to be given out, and Castle Home Building Centres will be celebrating diversity and community. Team necklaces will be given away thanks to Kirby's Source for Sports, and participants in the AAA Peewee Provincials will be on hand to take in the game.

Sunday is big -- as in BIG BROTHER, with houseguests Sindy-with-an-S and Naeha joining Graig, presented by HarbourAir. It's the usedvictoria.com gameday, Paint the Park Purple, and Salute to Cadets day with Maple Leaf Meats providing free hot dogs to all kids 16 and under, with a hot dog eating contest to boot!

Sunday's game is a 1pm start, the finale of the Walla Walla series.
