March 5, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Flint Firebirds News Release
Erie, Penn. - After Flint skated to a 3-2 road victory on Friday, the Firebirds and Otters will play game two of back-to-back games in Erie Saturday night. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. (ET) at the Erie Insurance Arena.
Flint is having its best season in franchise history, with records being broken and major milestones being set practically every game. Last night, they tied the club record for most road wins in a single season at 20. Their current 119 goals scored on the road is already a new milestone for the Birds. Rookie Coulson Pitre scored in last night's game and surpassed teammate Brennan Othmann's (New York Rangers), rookie-season record of 17 goals scored. Othmann also scored last night, and is only three goals shy of tying former Firebirds' standout Ryan Moore for the most goals in a single season (39) by any Flint player. Veteran goaltender Luke Cavallin continues to shine and was named the 'OHL Goaltender of the Month' for his results in February, including an 8-0-1-1 record while backstopping his squad to the top of the Western Conference standings. Ethan Keppen (Vancouver Canucks) lit the lamp last night as well, scoring career goal number 70 in his 200th OHL game.
The Firebirds enter Saturday's tilt ranked first in the West Division and first in the 10-team Western Conference, carrying a record of 32-15-1-3. They've gone 7-1-1-1 in their past 10 games, and they have the best road record in the OHL at 20-5-1-2. They ranked inside the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings last week but slid back from 10th to 'Honorable Mention' status after dropping Sunday's home game 7-3 to the Otters. Erie enters Friday's contest ranked fourth in the Midwest Division and eighth in the Western Conference with a record of 20-25-1-2. They're now 4-6-0-0 in their past 10 and carry an 8-11-0-1 record on home ice this season.
Saturday marks the 11th of 12 meetings between these clubs, and the sixth and final game to be played in Erie. Thus far, the Otters are winless in the five previous home games versus the Firebirds. Flint has gone 9-1-0-0 through the first ten meetings with Erie. All-time, the Firebirds are 15-8-2-3 against the Otters and hold an advantage of 7-5-2-1 at the Erie Insurance Arena.
Leading the way for Flint in the current series with Erie is Brennan Othmann with 11 goals and seven assists through the ten games. Defenseman Tyler Deline (2 G, 8 A), Amadeus Lombardi (4 G, 6 A), and Coulson Pitre (5 G, 5 A) have also found success versus Erie this year, each averaging a point per game. For the Otters, it's Daniel D'Amato, older brother of Flint's Luca D'Amato, leading the way with 11 points (6 G, 5 A). Christian Kyrou is tied for second in points with seven assists, matching Elias Cohen who has three goals and four helpers.
On special teams this season Flint's penalty-kill ranks first in the league, shutting down the opposition at a rate of 84.3%. Erie's penalty-killers are ranked sixth at 79.6%. With the man-advantage, the Otters are 17th in the league, converting at a rate of 16.8%. The Firebirds rank 13th, scoring at a 19.3% clip with the extra man.

The most wins any Flint netminder has posted in a single season is 29, set by Anthony Popovich in the 2019-20 campaign. Cavallin is already Flint's career leader in games played (128), wins (52) and shutouts (2).
