Saginaw Spirit News Release
Owen Sound, Ont. - The Saginaw Spirit (17-33-1-0) were unable to solve Nick Chenard and the Owen Sound Attack (24-23-2-2) in a 5-0 loss Saturday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound.
Saginaw was looking to finish the road trip off right with a victory after falling in Sarnia Wednesday and Kitchener Friday. The Spirit had the pressure on early, and was given a power play at 8:09. During the man advantage, an errant pass pack to the point sent the Attack in two-on-Tristan Lennox. Servac Petrovsky scored his 19th goal of the season shorthanded at 8:31. Late in the first period, a collision between Lennox and an Owen Sound player resulted in Lennox exiting the game. Andrew Oke came in relief of Lennox and made one save in the final minute to keep it 1-0 after 20 minutes.
With the one-goal game, Saginaw was unable to Maintain their pressure on the Owen Sound goal with the same frequency they did in the first period. Finally, it was the Attack scoring on a deflection off of a Spirit player in the slot. Nolan Seed got credit for his fourth goal of the season. Less than five minutes later, Colby Barlow got right in on Oke and beat him with a shot over his glove hand to make it 3-0 on a power play goal. The Spirit would take four consecutive minor penalties in the middle frame, outputting just six shots on goal.
When Dalton Duhart was called for tripping early in the third period, leading scorer of the Attack Deni Goure extended their lead to 4-0. With time winding down, former Spirit Nicholas Porco stole the puck in the Offensive zone and beat Oke between the legs for his 18th goal of the season. After 16 first period shots, Saginaw only mustered 11 shots in the final 40 minutes of the game. Nick Chenard earned his second shutout of the season.
The Spirit face the Attack twice next weekend on Fri. Mar. 11 and Sat. Mar. 12. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm at The Dow Event Center.
