
Spitfires Defeat the Soo 7-3

The Spitfires improved to 5-1-0 against the Soo Greyhounds with a big win on home ice. Solid efforts from the rookies was a difference maker.
In the first period the Spitfires were awarded a powerplay after Cuylle's stick was snapped in half. On the ensuing powerplay Henault's sniped home his 8th on the season from Zito and Cuylle. With just over two minutes to play in the period, Abraham got the puck on the wall and drove towards the net and banked it off the defence into the net for his 9th on the season, D'Amico had the lone assist. Just 33 seconds later the Spits extended their lead to 3-0. Josh Currie sniped his 11th on the season and that was it for Tynan. Spitfires doubled up the Soo 14-7 in shots.
In the 2nd period, the Soo came back with determination. They were awarded a powerplay just under four minutes into the period and scored to make it a two goal game. Just 3 minutes later, the Soo were on another powerplay but Ribau shot the puck out as the Soo were making changes and Zito jumped on the offence and he scored a shorthanded beauty. The Soo scored just two minutes after that on the powerplay to make it a 4-2 game. With just over five minutes left in the period the Soo scored on a rebound to make it a 4-3 game.
In the third period, the Spitfires offence reignited for three goals. Ryan Abraham scored his 2nd of the night on a sweet feed from Miedema to make it 5-3. Just over a minute later, Miedema scored on a wrap around to push the game out of reach. Late in the game the Soo had a powerplay and pulled the goalie, Cuylle blocked the shot and passed it up to Johnston who score don the empty net for his 30th of the season.
The Spitfires took this one by a score of 7-3. Shots were 39-25 in favour of the Soo at the end.
The Spitfires are back in action against the Knights tomorrow March 6th as they visit the WFCU Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:05pm.
