River City Rascals News Release
O'Fallon, Mo. - A first inning grand slam from St. Peters native and Rascals spring training outcast Jon Myers put the Gateway Grizzlies up 4-0 before River City starter Blaine O'Brien, making his professional debut, recorded an out. Two innings later it was 10-0, Myers had two homeruns and six RBIs en-route to a 12-3 Rascals loss that drops the home team to a .500 record for the first time since game two this season on May 19th.
O'Brien (0-1) allowed six runs on five hits in 1+ inning of work before Matt Costello made his Rascal debut, surrendering a two-run homer to Myers that put the Grizzlies (36-26) up 7-0 before the Rascals recorded their first hit.
The Grizzlies stretched their lead to 10-0 in the third inning on a two-run triple from Jonathan Johnson who scored on a wild pitch before former Grizzlie Charlie Lisk struck out in the bottom of the frame to leave the bases loaded.
River City (31-31) got on the board in the fourth inning with a two-out two-run double off the Big Dawg Wall from Ben Hewett but Gateway got a two-run homer from Vladimir Frias, his second of the series, to push the lead back to 10 at 12-2. The Rascals plated a run in the ninth after Zach Deutscher started the inning with a single and would up scoring on a Jason Patton groundout for the final count of 12-3.
River City looks to salvage a game at home in this series tomorrow with first pitch set for 7:05 on 80's night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Brett Zawacki (1-0, 1.80) takes the mound for Gateway against Tony Marsala (3-4, 3.16) for the Rascals.
