(Reading, PA) - The Reading Phillies used an 8-run second inning off Andrew Dobies (2-1) to beat the Portland Sea Dogs, 12-2 on Saturday night at First Energy Stadium in front of 8,549. The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.

Landon Jacobsen (5-2) worked eight innings on three hits and two runs to earn the victory for Reading. Dobies, who allowed a career-high nine runs, suffered his first loss of the season, lasting only one and 2/3 innings on eight hits and two walks.

Portland (17-18) scored both their runs in the fifth inning on Jeff Corsaletti's two-out, 2-run double off Jacobsen - scoring Eric Crozier and Andrew Pinckney.

Reading (21-19) had four players with multi-hit games and received 4 RBI from Greg Jacobs. Former Sea Dog Matt Padgett went 3-for-5, with a two-run homer and Brian Burgamy was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a walk. Michael Garciaparra, the younger brother of Nomar, added a two-run single. The Phillies sent 12 men to the plate in the second inning off Dobies and Kyle Jackson, going 4-for-4 with runners-in-scoring position.

The Phillies took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Peeter Ramos's run-scoring single. After an 8-run second inning, Jacobs smacked a 3-run double, giving Reading a 12-0 advantage after four innings.

Jacobsen and Mike Zagurski retired the final 11 batters of the game for Reading. Jackson yielded three runs in relief of Dobies but Jose Vaquedano and Beau Vaughan combined to pitch four and 2/3 scoreless innings. Vaughan retired all six batters faced and struck out three.

Portland's hits came from Corsaletti, Eric Crozier (double) and a single by Andrew Pinckney.

The Sea Dogs are 2-3 on their 10-game roadtrip and take on the Reading Phillies in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. LHP Tommy Hottovy (0-5, 5.45) will make his eighth start of the season - LHP Matt Maloney (3-2, 4.15) gets the starting nod for the Phillies.
