
Fisher Cats Win 9-7 In Opener, Mets Take Nightcap 8-4 Saturday

(Manchester, NH)--New Hampshire pounded out a season-high 16 hits and rallied for a 9-7 victory over Binghamton in the completion of Friday's suspended game. Binghamton took an 8-4 decision from the Fisher Cats in the regularly scheduled game Saturday at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
Michael Devaney (1-4) allowed 3 ER in 6 IP to take the nightcap for the Mets (16-23). Nic Jackson and Brett Harper hit homers, spoiling the Fisher Cat debut for right hander Yusaku Iriki (0-1).
Dustin Majewski led off the first with his third homer for the Fisher Cats (20-16). John Schneider drove in two runs with a double and Juan Peralta had an RBI.
In the first game, Aaron Mathews (3-for-5) drove in two runs with a sixth inning triple to put the Fisher Cats in front in a game they went on to win 9-7. Manny Mayorson went 3-for-3 and Juan Peralta went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI for the Fisher Cats.
Orlando Trias (1-1), the second of four Fisher Cat pitchers, earned his first win. Lee Gronkiewicz picked up eighth save.
The series with the Mets concludes Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm. It's Irish Day and Catholic Medical Center is sponsoring a floppy hat giveaway to the first 2,000 fans at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. LHP David Purcey (3-1, 2.93) goes for New Hampshire against Met RHP Kevin Mulvey (3-4, 3.18). Radio coverage on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network (AM-610, Manchester; AM-930, Rochester; AM-1540, Exeter) begins at 12:45pm with Mike Murphy.
After the weekend set with the Mets, Reading makes its only appearance in New Hampshire. On Monday, the Fisher Cats will honor Manchester Police Officer Michael Briggs by retiring the number 83, Briggs' badge number.
