ABOUT LAST GAME: Denyi Reyes posted the first nine-inning complete game shutout in the South Atlantic League on Sunday and blanked the Fireflies, 3-0. Reyes used just 92 pitches and yielded three hits-two of which were clocked off of Ali Sanchez's bat (including a double). Columbia starter David Peterson struck out seven for a third time in his last four starts.
UMBRELLA: Columbia's series finale against Greenville was canceled on Monday afternoon due to rain. Because the two teams don't meet again in the first half, this game will not be made up.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEKEND: Columbia has won four of its last five games, but that doesn't come close to the brightest moment of the weekend. On Friday, six Fireflies visited with children at the Palmetto Health Children's Hospital and then on Saturday scrimmaged the Screaming Eagles special needs baseball team. WIS's Joe Gorchow captured the best moments of the Screaming Eagles' time with the Fireflies from Saturday.
STREAKIN': On Sunday, outfielder Raphael Gladu extended his franchise-record hit streak to 13 straight games. Gladu is hitting .356 (16-for-45) during the hit streak and is also currently on a 18-game on-base streak. He bats eighth on Monday vs. Greenville.
Longest Fireflies Hit Streaks (2016-pres.):
1. 13-Raphael Gladu ... May 9-pres.
T-2. 11-Rigoberto Terrazas ... April 9-20, 2018
T-2. 11-David Thompson ... April 7-17, 2016
STREAKIN' x 2: There have now been three different Fireflies this season to record on-base streaks of 16 games or longer:
1. 29, Jeremy Vasquez (April 5-May 6)* *SAL & franchise-best
2. 17, Raphael Gladu (May 2-present)
3. 16, Scott Manea (April 21-May 12)
MAY MADNESS: Columbia played in another tight game on Sunday. The club has played in what's felt like nothing but close games of late:
- 25 of Columbia's last 31 games have been decided by three runs or fewer (more specifically, 19 of the club's 24 games in May)
- Columbia has played in the 3rd-most one-run games in the SAL (18)
WALK IT LIKE I TALK IT: Columbia is the only team in MiLB with three players leading their respective league in total walks:
South Atlantic League (Low A)
1. Jeremy Vasquez (COL) - 30
2. T-2. Blake Tiberi (COL) & Matt Winaker (COL) - 29
