Hagerstown Suns News Release
Hagerstown, MD - Aldrem Corredor had two of the Hagerstown Suns' five hits as the Hickory Crawdads upended the Suns at Historic Municipal Stadium on Tuesday night, 7-0. The Suns fall to 18-33 overall and will play the second game of a three-game set on Wednesday with a 7:05 PM first pitch.
Hickory took the first lead of the series in the top of the first against Suns starter Jackson Stoeckinger. Bubba Thompson reached on a throwing error by Yasel Antuna and stole second. Ryan Dorow flew out to right, allowing Thompson to tag and move to third with one out. Yohel Pozo hit a ground ball to short with the infield playing in, but Antuna threw Thompson out at the plate to keep the game scoreless while Pozo reached on a fielder's choice. Tyreque Reed followed Pozo with a double, and both runners scored when Pedro Gonzalez doubled off the base of the wall in left-center to give the Crawdads a 2-0 lead.
Hickory scored another run in the third on a sacrifice fly with Thompson scoring, but the Crawdads left-fielder dealt a big blow to the Suns in the fifth. Thompson smashed a lead-off homer to left field, giving the visitors a 4-0 advantage. A pair of runs crossed in the seventh to make it a 6-0 lead, while Thompson capped the Crawdads scoring with an RBI single in the eighth against Sam Held, giving Hickory a 7-0 win.
Stoeckinger (2-4) went six innings in a loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Held threw two innings in relief, allowing three runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Jared Brasher tossed a hitless ninth, striking out the side.
