ABOUT LAST GAME: Columbia felt the wrath of Nationals prospect Juan Soto (3-for-3, 2B, HR, 6 RBI, 2 BB) on Tuesday, falling to the Suns, 9-3. Cannon Chadwick (1.2 IP, 0 ER, 2 K) and Carlos Hernandez (1.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 K) pitched well out of the bullpen for the Fireflies.
RED-HOT RAMPAGE: The start of the 2018 season continues to be a memorable one for second baseman Blake Tiberi. The 23-year-old still leads the South Atlantic League with 12 hits and a .480 batting average through six contests. Tiberi already has three three-hit performances.
RED-HOT RAMPAGE, Pt. II: Blake Tiberi has also reached base safely in all six games to begin the year
HIGHEST BATTING AVERAGE TO START A SEASON (THROUGH 6 GAMES), FRANCHISE HISTORY:
1. Blake Tiberi, 2018 - .480 (12-for-25), 1 HR, 4 RBI, 5 R
2. Vinny Siena, 2016 - .444 (8-for-18), 6 R, 5 BB, .542 OBP
3. Luis Carpio, 2017 - .381 (8-for-21), 7 R, 3 RBI, 6 BB, .536 OBP
CAN'T MISS: First baseman Jeremy Vasquez is back in the lineup for Columbia after an evening off on Tuesday. Vasquez has been to the plate 22 times and struck out just once. That's the lowest strikeout rate in the league through six games. During his All-Sunshine State Conference year at Nova Southeastern in 2017, Vasquez struck out 36 times in 247 plate appearances-the equivalent of fanning just once every two games!
ROSTER MOVE: The Mets, Columbia's parent club, transferred right-handed reliever Conner O'Neil to the disabled list and added righty Carlos Hernandez to the roster. The 23-year-old pitched a scoreless 9th inning on Tuesday just a few hours after arriving in the capital city.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Infielder Rigoberto Terrazas turns 22 today.
