Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive will host Opening Day presented by TD Bank on Thursday at Fluor Field. First pitch against the Rome Braves is at 7:05 PM, and all fans are encouraged to be in their seats prior to 6:30 PM for the special pregame ceremonies.
The ceremony will begin promptly at 6:30 PM with a video commemorating the Drive's 2017 South Atlantic League Championship, the first in team history, as well as the presentation of championship rings to the nine returning players and field staff members from last year's roster.
The South Atlantic League Championship flag will be raised after the ring presentation. Following the flag raising, the Drive will hold a special presentation regarding their selection as the recipient of the 2017 John H. Johnson President's Award by Minor League Baseball, the first South Atlantic League franchise to receive that honor. The presentation will feature Greenville Mayor Knox White, who has been one of the Drive's biggest advocates since day one of the franchise.
Beginning at 6:40, the managers meeting with the umpires at home plate will include Cal Hurst and Michael Cooper from TD Bank, and at 6:45, the pregame player and staff introductions for both teams will begin, which includes special entrances for the Drive roster.
The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Meghan Barp, the recently appointed President of the United Way of Greenville County. Following the presentation of colors by the Presbyterian College Honor Guard, Boo Beaty will perform the National Anthem prior to first pitch.
The Fluor Field gates will open at 6:00 PM on Thursday. All fans who enter Fluor Field will be subject to wanding at the gates, and fans should be aware of the new clear bag policy in place for the 2018 season.
Once in place at Fluor Field, fans will be able to check out the two newest additions for this season. The Drive have installed an all-new playground just inside the Main Street entrance, and renovations have been completed to the Furman On Deck Picnic Pavilion below the 500 Club in right field.
